Well, we have reached 7 weeks! I have been informed by one of my baby websites that the twins are now the size of blueberries :) Pretty cute. Crazy that two itty bitty blueberries are making it VERY hard to breathe and stay awake right now...
I have scheduled my first high risk OB appt with a very well known Maternal Fetal Medicine doc in the city for December 8th. We will be delivering at Cornell as they have one of the best NICUs around. No homebirth for me! :( I'm coming to grips with the fact that I will most likely not have the natural birth I've always wanted... I may have to get an epidural or even have a c-section. I will do whatever is necessary to get my babies here the safest way possible, which I'm hoping ends up being a regular old fashioned birth :) We will see what fate decides.
Also, according to a book I'm reading on twin pregnancies, I should aim to gain 25 pounds by 20 weeks gestation to help avoid pre-term labor and low birth weight babies. By the end of pregnancy I should aim to gain 42-50 or so pounds. This seems like SO MUCH... but it needs to happen. So far I have gained 3 pounds... by week 13 I'm hoping to gain 8-12 so I need to get this ball rolling... however, I have no idea how I can eat anymore. I eat ALL THE TIME. At least staying super full has seemed to quell my morning sickness... as long as I don't let myself get hungry the morning sickness is almost non-existant!
Here is the 7 week belly shot.. yup its getting big already!7 Weeks! |
Why do you have to have an appointment with a high-risk OB? Is that standard with twins?
ReplyDeleteIts not necessary, but many OBs aren't really taught how to deal with multiple pregnancies.. many of the guidelines regarding exercise, calorie consumption and weight gain are extremely different when carrying two or more... I wanted to make sure I had an OB that was trained to know how to handle a twin pregnancy to help ensure the longest gestation period possible. :) I want to avoid the NICU if I can!
